The original wooden cross on the grave of Private 351072 Herbert Ashton inTrefcon British Cemetery, Caulaincourt.Herbert joined the 9th Battalion in October 1914. He later transferred to the 2nd Battalion and joined B Company.He was killed in action on the 12th September 1918, aged 24.His service number is recorded wrongly on the cross. Later this would be replaced with a stone headstone by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
